The Truth about Insurance Claims and Steps to Take Before Choosing a Roofing Company

Despite popular belief, claiming a roof with your insurance company is a fairly easy process that the homeowner should take care of on their own.  If you believe you have a claim, contact your insurance company, schedule an inspection and receive an estimate from your insurance agency.  Then, contact Mike Boucher Roofing, or any other reputable and honest roofing company, and request a quote. From there, you can compare quotes with your insurance agency and agree on a fair settlement.  Many homeowners are intimidated by the process of claiming a re-roof with their insurance company.  This is unfortunately, due to homeowners getting taken advantage of by less than reputable roofing companies.

1.  Do not turn the claim over to a roofing company to handle.  In doing this, you sign over the claim and all of your rights to the roofing company and they receive the funds from your insurance company, whether they fix your roof or not.  You are no longer entitled to YOUR claim money.   If you are asked to do this, consider it a red flag and move on.

2.  Always insist the roofing company provides you with a written estimate for the work that will be provided.  They can do this without knowing weather insurance is being involved or not. When a company insists on seeing your insurance quote first and also prefers handling the claim themselves “to save you the hassle”, this is a red flag.

3.  Ensure you are working directly with the roofing company you called and not with someone who will broker your roof to another company.  An easy way to see this is when the company provides you with a written estimate on-site, instead of sending it to you at a later date.

4.  Check credentials, licenses, insurance and reviews to ensure you are working with an honest, high quality company.

5.  GOOGLE any company before hiring them to ensure that they have a website, really exist, are local and have great reviews from fellow homeowners.

6.  Ask if the roofing company you are interviewing use sub-contractors or if their installers are on staff.  Subcontractors are often not trained in the field, can walk off the job and have no recourse if you are unhappy.

7.  NEVER pay any money until the project is complete.  Reputable companies do not require deposits up front before work is completed and you are completely satisfied.

8.  Make sure your roofing company only uses the highest quality shingles, such as Owens Corning, Atlas and GAF.

9.  Don’t forget your metal work and ventilation vents.  Ensure your company of choice does not cut corners with your vents and custom metal work, as many companies are not set up to provide quality work in these areas.

10.  Ask about the warranty on your roof.  Mike Boucher Roofing provides warranties that are up to a lifetime.  Don’t sell yourself short and accept anything less.

11. Inquire how the roofing company will protect your home and its surroundings while work is being performed.  Many companies damage driveways, pools, screens, etc. while acting carelessly while working on your home.

Mike Boucher Roofing cares about one thing only…. the homeowner.  We promise that you will be 100% satisfied with your beautiful, high quality roof or we will not accept payment until you are.   We use only the highest quality materials, own our own custom metal work plant, employ all of our installers, and have only 5 star reviews from all who have trusted us.  We protect your home and it’s surroundings to ensure that your home will be more beautiful when we leave then when we arrived.  We provide the beauty you  want with the quality you deserve!
